Mikael Jensen

Neo - Symbolist

I am a Neo-Symbolist—part of a small but steadily growing movement that seeks to reintroduce meaning, depth, and the language of dreams into contemporary art.

Artist statement:

My work is deeply rooted in over 30 years of successful thinking, using philosophy and psychology, disciplines I continue to integrate into my artistic process. I have received more than 40 international creative awards, excluding 3 within the field of art using symbolism.

I use symbolism because it is, according to Carl Gustav Jung, the language of the soul. It is perhaps the only universal language, cutting across religion, culture, race and geography. Jung and anthropologist Joseph Campbell have proved that dreams is a universal language. My foundation is built on the belief that dreams are just as real as our outer lives. This allows my art to become a bridge between the visible and the invisible aspects of life.

I am truly fascinated by insight—both personal and interpersonal. To me, the most important task of any artwork is to tell a story that inspires reflection. With every piece I create, my goal is to inspire the viewer in a way that helps them recognize something within themselves. My paintings serve as hallmarks on their journey of life.
